Many of you might also know that the new Indian 50 Rupee note has a motif of this stone car on the reverse. Even though the name suggests it is a chariot, it was actually built as a shrine which once upon a time contained the icon of Garuda, mount of Vishnu. Experts say that the Vijaynagara Kings were inspired by the Sun temple at Konark in Orissa and built a similar one here.
